Mountain Biking in Cusco and Ollantaytambo

Mountain Biking in Cusco and Ollantaytambo

The secret is getting out – Peru has some of the best mountain biking in the world, particularly for those who like big and long descents. Located in the heart of the Andes with an average riding altitude of over 10,000 feet, mountain biking in the Cusco and Ollantaytambo areas is a non stop visual feast of glaciers, rivers, and Incan archaeological sites.

There are no built recreational trails here (yet), just ancient footpaths beaten into the mountainsides over the last thousand years. Taking a natural, gravity and common-sense based line, the trails here are a joy to ride. The mountain biking in the mountains of the Sacred Valley of the Incas is for the most part rated intermediate and above.  A great deal of the available riding is at high altitude and often very exposed (edge of steel cliffs or falls).  This is as big as it gets.

There are some easier trails, of course.
