If you have made it to this page, you have come to the right place ! If you have two weeks of time to spend in the Sacred Valley of Peru then we have an ideal itinerary for you. The trekking and hiking tours in Peru are some of the best on the planet. It is hard to beat the combination of huge mountain scenery, glaciers and rivers everywhere, the Incan archaeological sites, and of course the warm hospitality of the local people in the Peruvian Andes.
We recommend the following rough itinerary:
Arrive Cusco, then transfer to Ollantaytambo for the lower altitude and easier acclimatization. Spend the day relaxing and learning the town. Ollantaytambo is a centuries old Incan village that many compare in historical and spiritual significance to Jerusalem in terms of its importance to the Inca culture. It’s cobblestone streets still retain their charm as does the town itself.
After an early breakfast, visit the Incan fortress of Ollantaytambo. Built by Incan Pachacuti in the late 1400’s (and still being worked on when the Spanish conquistadores arrived in 1532), this amazing site has it all – incredibly fine and smooth Inca stonework; large massive blocks of pink granite hauled here from a site far away; various astronomical special effects taking place during sunrise at the winter and summer solstices, and much more. There is some of the best stonework in all of Peru here, and if you get here early there are no crowds.
Leave for trek. There are a few 8 to 10 day treks that we recommend. One is our famous “Choquequirau to Machu Picchu“ trek which takes about 8 days. Another is our Espiritu Pampa trek and we also offer
